NFL Week 8 Picks - Pain Don't Hurt
Wow. Week 7 of the NFL was our very worst week yet. I went 2 for 5, my only two wins being the Patriots beating the Bills 28 - 6 and the Jets beating the Lions 31 - 24. That puts my grand total at 15 wins and 10 losses. In fact, the only thing that saved me was Andrea getting completely wiped out on her picks. She went 0 for 5 making her season total 13 wins and 12 losses. Even our mutual pick failed in spectacular fashion. The Arizona Cardinals are so bad they even managed to lose to the Raiders 22 - 9. My picking ability was so off last week that I picked the Tigers to beat the Cardinals in the World Series FIVE games to one. Not the required four games, but FIVE. I liked the Tigers so much, I gave 'em an extra game apparently. In case you haven't heard, the St. Louis Cardinals shocked everyone by beating the Detroit Tigers in the more accepted format of four games to one.
So without further ado, here are this week's picks, posted mere hours before those games start. I only hope that since it is my birthday today, the gambling gods will have some pity on me and let all my bets win.
Peter's Picks (home teams in CAPS)
GREEN BAY PACKERS (-4) over Arizona Cardinals - screw the Cardinals, I'm never picking them again. I never normally pick the Packers because when I do they lose and I feel bad for those traumatized cheeseheads. But thePackers actually pulled off a win last week, they've got to be able to beat the stinky Cardinals in Green Bay, right?
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (-2) over Baltimore Ravens
St. Louis Rams (+9.5) over SAN DIEGO CHARGERS - It's week 8, it's time for the Chargers to start fading. Just cover, St. Louis. That's all I ask.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+9.5) over NEW YORK GIANTS - Umm, I'm still trying to remember my logic behind this pick.
New York Jets (+2) over CLEVELAND BROWNS
Andrea's Picks
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (-2) over Baltimore Ravens
SAN DIEGO CHARGERS (-9.5) over St. Louis Rams
San Francisco 49ers (+16) over CHICAGO BEARS
CLEVELAND BROWNS (-2) over New York Jets
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (-7) over Jacksonville Jaguars
So, we've got one pick in common again with the Saints and two picks for opposing teams. I'd brag about how our mutual picks never lose but that's no longer true. What this means in practical terms is that we're probably going to be tied again. It's funny the way your wins and losses average out over time. It's almost as if those sports books know what they're doing when they set those lines!
